The transmission went out on my 2001 Lexus ES300. My car was towed to the Lexus dealer in Clear Lake. After a brief check, the Lexus dealer verified that the transmission was bad. The cost of the repair would be $5,000 and I would receive a 1 year warranty. After hearing the high cost of the repair, I decided to check around. The Lexus dealer told me that local transmission shops could not adequately repair a Lexus transmission. After calling several other transmission repair shops in the area and getting slightly lower costs with only a 6 month warranty, I finally called Hellyer Transmission in Deer Park. We just got our transmission redone this week, and even got the Jeep back in time for Christmas. The work was great and for everything that was wrong with our manual transmission (yes, we pushed it to the limit before taking it in), the cost was very reasonable. The only trouble we had was with the financing. Financing is in house & they started the work immediately due to the time limit, but we hadn’t been approved for financing yet. Our credit’s good so we thought it wouldn’t be a problem but, when they found out that we’d just moved here, there was a bit of a debate about it. Thanks to Brian, it all got settled and done on time. He was very clear about what was going on and kept in constant touch with us. Both my husband and I talked with Brian and I never got the feeling that he treated me any different as a woman – which is a problem I’ve had with other mechanics. All around, I’d recommend Hellyer Transmission to anyone I know who needs transmission work, but I would also recommend getting that financing paperwork done first, so it’s a smooth ride all the way (just like my transmission now).
